This Cultural triangle tour, ideal for first-time visitors with limited time, begins with the island country largest fishing port Negombo and continues on to the ‘Cultural Triangle – Habarana, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Kandy’.

This introductory tour will allow you to discover amazing architecture, beautiful temples and World heritage sites and see wild elephants in Minneriya which can take your breath away.

The tour starts from the beach city of Negombo which is historically interesting place and also strongly influenced by the Catholic Church. Thereafter, moving to the heart of the cultural triangle of Srilanka - Habarana. Here you will get to explore some fascinating UNESCO world heritage sites as well as the ancient cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, the lion rock of Sigiriya and the beautiful rock cave Buddhist temple in Dambulla. Anuradhapura is an oldest inhabited city of the world where Buddhism first came to Srilanka and was the country’s capital for 1300 years. Polonnaruwa is the medieval capital and is the second most ancient cities of Srilanka’s kingdom.

Next, it’s time to visit former Sinhalese capital – Kandy surrounded by central highland. This royal capital of the island’s central province is home to several lush tea plantations. This world heritage city is popular for the Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of Buddhism’s most significant religious sites.

Conclude this tour in capital of Srilanka, visiting Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage on the way. Elephant orphanage is must-visit for animal lovers. Here, you can enjoy seeing elephants bathing, feeding and you can even touch them. It is the best place to meet the Asian elephants.

On the western coast is the capital city Colombo that displays rich colonial heritage. Here you will get an opportunity to explore the colorful markets, colonial-era buildings, museums, churches and visit the city’s varied temples.

  • Day 1 Arrive Colombo to Negombo By road 15kms / 01hrs

    Upon arrival at the Bandaranayake International Airport (Colombo Airport), you will be received by the chauffeur and transferred to Negombo. Negombo is a historically interesting place with a beautiful beach and is often referred to as “Little Rome’. The city has a colourful past in that the Dutch, the Portuguese and the British all laid claim to it at different times. The evening is free to explore on your own. Overnight will be at Negombo.

    Day 2 In Negombo

    Enjoy leisurely breakfast at the hotel. Day is at leisure to enjoy and relax near the beach. Later, if you wish, you can experience Negombo Village tour where you can explore the town and view many of its colonial style buildings and architecture. Overnight will be at Negombo.

    Day 3 Negombo to Habarana By road 183 / 5hrs

    After breakfast, leave for Habarana - Srilanka’s cultural triangle city. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel. Later, you may enjoy the Elephant back safari through the jungles of Habarana. Overnight will be at Habarana.

    Day 4 In Habarana (Excursion to Anuradhapura)

    After breakfast, leave for Anuradhapura which is the extensive ruins of former capital and sacred UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will visit the Stupas, the ruins of ancient royal palaces and the Sri Maha Bodhi, the sacred Bo tree which is over 2200 years old grown from a branch of the very tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment – the oldest historically documented tree in the world. One can also practice meditation under the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi Tree. Overnight will be at Habarana.

    Day 5 Habarana to Polonnaruwa By road 50kms / 1hrs

    After breakfast, travel to Polonnaruwa which is another ancient city and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a small town of ruins dating from the eleventh and twelfth centuries, comprised of an intriguing and well-preserved array of palaces, shrines, monasteries, pavilions, parks, ponds and irrigation lakes. Thereafter continue to Minneriya National Park. Reach Minneriya and check in to the hotel. If time permits, you can for a game drive into Minneriya National Park, one of the best places in Sri Lanka to see wild elephants. Overnight will be at Minneriya.

    Day 6 Minneriya National Park to Sigriya By road

    You have option to enjoy the game drive again. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Later in the afternoon, proceed to Sigriya. Begin the visit by climbing the 200 meters high rock fortress of Sigiriya (UNESCO World Heritage Site). See the famous frescoes of the Heavenly Maidens of Sigiriya and the 10 foot high Mirror Wall. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Later, leave for Jathika Namal Uyana which is the largest ironwood forest and pink quartz mountain in Asia. According to archeological researcher’s findings, the pink quartz in this historical place has a history of more than 550 millions of years. Return to hotel in Sigriya for an overnight.

    Day 7 Sigriya to Kandy By road 90kms / 3hrs

    After breakfast visit Dambulla and explore the famous Golden Rock cave temple (UNESCO World Heritage Site). A vast isolated rock mass with its five caverns is the largest best preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. Continue on to Kandy (UNESCO World Heritage Site). En route, you will visit a spice garden in Matale. Later, reach Kandy in the evening and check in to the hotel. Rest of the evening is at leisure. You could either rest at your lovely hotel or explore the city with your chauffeur, e.g. walking around Kandy Lake in city center or go for shopping in the local markets. Overnight will be at Kandy.

    Day 8 In Kandy

    After breakfast, take an interesting visit to Royal Botanical Garden of Peradeniya which boasts 300+ varieties of orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. Thereafter, witness a vivid and traditional Rangahala Cultural Dance (Kandyan Dance) before walking to the nearby Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic - Sri Lanka's most sacred Buddhist shrine. Overnight will be at Kandy.

    Day 9 Kandy to Colombo By road 135kms / 5hrs

    After breakfast travel to Colombo en route visiting Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. It is a home for nearly 84 young and old elephants. Reach Colombo by the evening and soon take a guided city tour to explore Colombo's colonial legacies including the Independence Square, Gangarama Temple of Colombo, mile-long promenade of Galle Face Green. Stop for taking pictures when drive by the former British Administrative Center etc. Overnight will be at Colombo.

    Day 10 Colombo Departure

    After breakfast, visit Colombo by driving through the commercial and city center known as the Fort. Visit Pettah market and the National Museum. You could also visit a Buddhist Temple and a Hindu Kovil to experience the diversity of religion. If time permits, you may also go some shopping. Later, as per your flight timings, you will be transferred to the airport to take a flight back home with sweet memories of the tour. TOUR ENDS !
